Maung Saungkha fined over campaign calling to end internet shutdown

Kyauktada township court implied a fine of thirty thousand Kyat (30,000 MMK) to Maung Saungkha today for organizing a campaign demanding an end to internet shutdown in Rakhine State and Chin State.It was the anniversary of the internet shutdown in eight townships in Rakhine State and Paletwa township in Chin State on June 21, 2020. Kyauktada township police force filed a lawsuit under section 19 of Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Law against Maung Saungkha for hanging banners at an overpass that read “Do you keep the internet cut-off to hide the war crimes and murders?” and “No internet shutdown in Rakhine and Chin!” on that day.
